My trip to Formentera, May 2019

I have been visiting Ibiza for many years, but had never been to Formentera, until now.

The day began by getting up at 10am (thats early), I caught the bus from my San Antonio hotel to the bus station, from there I took another bus to Ibiza Town and the port area.

Now I had done my research online for the ferries. Websites quoted 19.99 Euros return on a ferry which gets your there in 15 minutes. I arrived at the port area about 12.30. So, in the kiosk there are 4 different companies and you have to go from one to another to get the cheapest fare, the thing is, different ferries leave at various times with a wide range of prices. The next ferry due to leave, they wanted 40 Euros return, I kid you not. The 19.99 ferry wasn’t sailing until 2.45pm. So what to do after getting up early and making the effort? So I decided I would go with the 40 euro return trip. Not having much money on me I walked around the old town to find a sandwich and a drink to take with me.

When I got to the port my ferry was preparing to leave, so it says you can pay onboard, so i just jumped on and took a seat. After a few minutes a crew member started shouting out to people to pay at the till, however he was speaking in Spanish and although I understand Spanish I pretended I didn’t hear him. Therefore I arrived at Formentera for free!

Then, there is a local bus which costs 8 euros return to take you around the island (more money), so by now I don’t have much money left. I finally arrived at my chosen beach and spent a lovely few hours here.

So the return……..of course I have no ticket so i go to the kiosk and guess what, it cost me 27 Euros to get back. Yes there was a cheaper alternative about 2 hours later and it would take 60 minutes to sail back to Ibiza.

Formentera is beautiful. do try to take the time to see it. Although I wouldn’t fancy the trip in the heat of August.

Still such a shame that it was a rip off to get there and why do they charge tourists to use the bus after paying so much already to get there? Oh yeah and there’s not an Ice Cream shop to be seen!
